Clueless about “Christmas”

Here are some thoughts on the subject at my Excessmas site: http://excessmas.com/2011/12/22/usa-today-on-just-say-no-to-christmas-clueless/

  • What is that background up there?

Just above, you'll see what looks like a multicolor shirt as a background. It is a close-up of a "spaghetti shirt," and here's how it works: You take an old dress shirt, paint it up with random color designs, and wash it once to set the color. Now if you're going to do something messy, just put on the spaghetti shirt and stop worrying! (A few blotches of spaghetti sauce won't make it any less attractive.)

Here are a few pet projects of mine aimed at "more jollies per dollar" -- through good value and adjustment of attitudes.

Cut the cable: Most people can get great viewing without cable or satellite, spend less time staring at the TV, and get happier.

Smartphone savings: You can spend less and get excellent service. See how.

Celebrate Christmas: and forget about "Excessmas."

Worry-free investing Follow this strategy and get rich slowly (not "get rich quick").

This approach is about putting money in its place, which is definitely not first place in anybody's life. Below are some posts from my personal finance website on this subject:

If you'd like to worry less about your investments, and are willing to put in some serious thought, here's an approach for you. Buy and hold low-cost index funds -- then sit back and let the market work its magic in the long term. You can find out more at my personal finance website.
